A lighting fixture for course Introduction to Lighting design (MA), Spring 2023
QUAD
Quad is a wall-attached corner light fixture, that is made out of stainless steel. The polished steel panel is cut to shape with waterjet cutter and bended to 90 degrees. Panel surface is mirroring and so makes the quarter of a light fixture a whole. The prototype in the pictures is self-made.
The assignment and process
The task was to make a light fixture using and E27 light bulb. Other aspects were left optional for the students.
My thought process started with some sort of movement in the light and after little bit of sketching I came up with the idea of a corner light, since that’s not very common idea. I also got excited with the idea of adding a mirroring surface, which worked perfectly with the corner idea. Quad uses less material as it is only one fourth part of a whole lamp and with the mirror it still looks like one whole.
