The final assignment of a course Colour-Light-Space, a pair work with Rosa-Maria Majuri, Spring 2020

Waltari

The assignment

The final work for our course was to get to know Töölöntullinkatu and its colour scheme. The assignment, based on the research, was to make a colour plan for a new apartment building called Waltari that will be built in the area. For the research part we managed to gather a colour palette with the textures and materials as well.

Why are stairways often so dull?

For our design we chose the stairways of the building, because we wanted to research what are the things that affect their appreciation and the atmosphere. We came to the conclusion, that colours should be more boldly used in the designing of stairways, since they are sort of the face of the building. We also took into consideration the lighting of the spaces. How does a stairway look outside when it’s dark; is it inviting or dismal?

We designed three different suggestions for the stairways - here are two of them.
